Sony Socialife News app now available on non-Xperia smartphones


Sony has open up its Socialife news app to non-Xperia smartphones (not tablets). The app is previously can only be downloaded on Xperia devices, including Windows 8 VAIO PCs, with the download count of 13 million downloads. 

FreeXperia Team brings CyanogenMod 11 to Xperia M


The FreeXperia Project has announced that the CyanogenMod 11 (similar to Android 4.4.2) has added his support for Sony Xperia M smartphone. The support is added starting from the latest build (FXP309).

Sony prepping 1.0.B.4.80 update for SmartWatch 2


Sony is about to roll the new major firmware update for its Sony SmartWatch 2 accessory. The update, which has the build number of 1.0.B.4.80, is a major firmware jump from the current version (1.0.B.3.36) has showcased with the playable preview unit. 

Sony's Smart call handling feature ported to Xperia Z1/Z1 Compact handsets



One of the Xperia Z2's feature is Smart call handling, which allows users to answer/reject calls via motion gestures. To answer the call just lift up the phone to your ears, to reject just shake the device. Well if you already own the Z1/Z1 Compact with root permissions then you can try out this feature. Reports says that the call answering is working, but it needs a harder shake to reject the call.

Xperia Z2 system dump is available to download


The system dump that comes from the Xperia Z2 is now available to download. The .tar.bz2 file has a hefty size of 873,28 megabyte and include some goodies of the Xperia Z2 apps such as camera apps, exclusive features and functions, complete launcher with themes and wallpapers and so on. This could mean big for developers, as they can extract some Xperia Z2 goodies and port it to other Xperia phones or as a reference to make custom ROMs.

Sony KitKat live wallpaper available to download


The Xperia KitKat live wallpaper is now also available to download. You can install it on Xperia devices running at least Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but we recommend to install it on a rooted device because if you install it on non-rooted device it will experience the force close problems (if not then you're lucky). 

Sony certifying Xperia Z2/Z2 Tablet firmware - 17.1.A.1.2

Sony has, for the second time, certify the new Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet firmware on PTCRB. The firmware number certified is at 17.1.A.1.2, so is likely to be a major bug-fixing firmware, judging by the number jump of firmware that earlier certified (from 17.1.A.0.504). We guess that this is not the firmware released with the device, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we have the news. The Z2/Z2 Tablet is scheduled to launch globally from this month.
